Summary

Leigh Fletcher: happily married stepmom to two gorgeous boys goes missing on Monday。 Her husband, Mark, says he knows nothing of her whereabouts。 She went to work and just never came home。 Their family is shattered。

Kai Janssen: married to wealthy Dutch businessman Daan and vanishes the same week。 Kai left their luxurious penthouse and glamorous world without a backward glance。 She seemingly evaporated into thin air。 Daan is distraught。

Detective Clements knows that people disappear all the time—far too frequently。 Most run away from things, some run toward, others are taken but find their way back。 A sad few never return。 These two women are from very different worlds。 Their disappearances are unlikely to be connected。 And yet, at a gut level, the detective believes they might be。

How could these women walk away from their families, husbands and homes willingly? Clements is determined to unearth the truth, no matter how shocking and devastating it may be。

#1 Sunday Times bestselling author Adele Parks returns with her most provocative, compelling book to date。

What hints are abandoned? Is there something that they aren’t advising her? Draw an obvious conclusion and reality will cause an issue by reading the book。My review-This twisty spine-chiller was engaging and I was quick to perceive how the story would close。 With a scope of story point of view, it was intriguing to perceive how the vanishings and their examinations unfurl。 I thought that it is hard to get into this book。 It was a sluggish burner, helping me a tad to remember all the characters。 After this point, I was unable to get enough of the story, and the author had provoked my curiosity。 I immediately speculated the consummations of the story, and this diminished my satisfaction in this book。The unexpected and unexplained vanishing of two ladies occurs in this book which is inspected by Clements。 The story shifts between a few characters, thinking about their practices during the examination, with additional flashbacks of the two ladies。 The readers comprehend their past and how they came into a relationship with their current accomplices。 At first, I thought that it is hard to monitor who was describing and I think this was because I had not completely set up a good foundation for myself in the story。 When the various people become clearer, I discovered this added to the pieces of information of the vanishings。 The book is set against the scenery of the pandemic。 I thought that it is fascinating to consider how mentalities have changed in a year。The book was a very decent thrill ride; however, I was frustrated with how rapidly I had deduced the plot。 I can’t carefully describe the situation without uncovering fundamental spoilers。 The author’s composing is convincing and twisty yet I do think there were minutes where the speed of the account eased back to turn out to be less fascinating。 Regardless, I was engaged and delighted in watching the secret unfurl as two families attempt to learn why somebody has vanished。 。。。more

This book was intense and shocking。 There were many plot twists but unfortunately the ending was not the best。 It is definitely a book to read as it was fun trying to figure out who takes her in the end!!

I knew there was something, it just wasn't mentioned anymore。。。" This was my first book by Adele Parks, and I will definitely try more of hers! A chore to get through。 I should have stopped reading when I had it I figured it out a third of the way in。 Mind numbing characters that I felt absolutely nothing but disgust for。 I’ve unfortunately noticed a trend of books written during and including the pandemic are just shit。

This was RIDICULOUS。 I liked it to start with because I thought it was (view spoiler)[ using the thriller/ melodrama genre to talk about bigamy, and I really liked the idea of flipping the genders in the usual story (ie it's the woman who has two separate marriages!) but the resolution/unreliable narrator was SUCH A CHEAT。 It wasn't a case of twisty, enjoyable misdirection, it was just the author selectively telling us some of the thoughts that were going through a character's head but not the o This was RIDICULOUS。 I liked it to start with because I thought it was (view spoiler)[ using the thriller/ melodrama genre to talk about bigamy, and I really liked the idea of flipping the genders in the usual story (ie it's the woman who has two separate marriages!) but the resolution/unreliable narrator was SUCH A CHEAT。 It wasn't a case of twisty, enjoyable misdirection, it was just the author selectively telling us some of the thoughts that were going through a character's head but not the ones that would give away the plot, and not providing any intradiegetic reason why the character would, for example, shy away from those thoughts。 And also not providing any clues or hints or anything that I returned to later going "I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE!!!" Just, like, "I watched Mark, he looked sad, I told him I was going to my flat, I left," and 100pp later you find out that actually she was going to the secret room where she has tied up Mark's wife and tortured her for days。 Okay? But also you could equally well have found out that she was an alien who was married to Donald Trump, and that would have been unsatisfying too。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

The story seems unfinished。 Leigh and Kai are fully developed and the story focused mostly on them and mostly from their point of view。 Mark and Daan was by standers。 Detective Clements and her actions were spotty especially given that her superiors did not want her to pursue the investigation any further。 The pieces of evidence were weak and passable at best。 Fiona's character did not make any type of sense! In London, two women go missing at the same time。 Leigh is a devoted mother to her two stepsons, a loving wife who works hard to keep things together in the home。 Kai is married to Daan, a wealthy businessman who showers her with all the luxuries in life。 Why would they both disappear within days of each other? DC Clements is tasked with the job of putting the pieced together。 Adele Parks has crafted a suspenseful thriller that will keep you guessing and looking for clues right up until the end。

I don't tend to read books that begin with a frightened woman chained up in an empty room because I'm frankly sick of that particular scenario。 However the blurb for this book promised something rather different from Adele Parks and I have say on the whole she delivers on that score。 The set up is intriguing and unexpected and the way the story is structuring is clever。 As the story progressed, it became increasingly hard to like or care much about any of the characters and there were long passa I don't tend to read books that begin with a frightened woman chained up in an empty room because I'm frankly sick of that particular scenario。 However the blurb for this book promised something rather different from Adele Parks and I have say on the whole she delivers on that score。 The set up is intriguing and unexpected and the way the story is structuring is clever。 As the story progressed, it became increasingly hard to like or care much about any of the characters and there were long passages of introspection that didn't really move the story along or tell us anything that hadn't already been made clear。 After some very unlikely coincidences, I began to find it hard to suspend my disbelief。 I also started to skip over some of the dull parts of the text in the hope that something would actually happen。 When at last it came, the dramatic ending was so unlikely I felt a bit cheated -especially as the final outcome remained unclear。 。。。more
